Make sure your router has the latest firmware.

Secondly, I've noticed BitTorrent causes this type of problem. If you use BitTorrent, then try limiting the number of connections that your software uses. Also limit your upload and download speeds.

I was using a $40 D-Link router at one point and got so sick of it getting tied up, so one day I went out and bought a $175 D-Link router which performs MUCH better.

I still need to restart my router every now and then, but not once a day like I had to do with the $40 router.

I don't think there's a complete solution to your problem. It's a combination of software and hardware design.
