How far can you go with tweaking a blog system?

Hello people - I have a question

I really enjoy using WP as it is so easy but then obviously there are limitations to WP compared to a normal site but it seems new plugins are coming out every day for WP - that you can totally have it so uniqe now that some people don't even realize it is a so called blog

Anyways I would like to know what do you guys think, or have you ever come across any unique blog sites that are just different to a contempary blog layout.

Kineda.com has been getting noticed recently as at first, you can't tell if it is a blog or not but it is run of Wordpress and is a blog.

I am looking to launch a site and I'd like to use WP for it as it is easy. I'd like to make it unique, so a blog with user profiles and such and things like voting polls.

Have you guys seen any unique type of blogs or how FAR can you go with tweaking a blog system like Wordpress in your opinion?

You can tweak wordpress so for instance it would run my portfolio. a few plugins may be involved depending on what i wanted but wordpress isn't just limited to blogs and can be used for all sorts of things. there are also lots of other features of wordpress you don't see on blogs. www.wordpress.org and looking through the codex at various functions should help you to see whats possible.

I really do think WP has endless possibilities.

Let me be clearer.

Ok you have your design. The features of this site will allow people to upload pictures of themselves displayed in a certain size to fit the layout.

These pictures - just like the articles - can be rated by viewers and they can also have comments left on them.

Also on the site - 2 Top Tens on the home.

One top ten to show the highest ranked images -

The second top ten to display the pictures with the most comments.

Also I'd like to insert voting polls - so get two picutres and choose something like which one is "hotter" - allowing people to vote and leave comments at the same time just like on forums when you create a poll and then leave a post as well.

Possible?

Wouldn't it just be easier to get a "hot or not" script?
