I don't suggest dreamweaver for coding.... May want to look into php designer 2007, i personally find it very useful... Then again I just like color highlighting.

You might want to try Notepad ++ http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm

I use it almost daily and it is great!

^ is the best IMO for a beginner. Since W3C is where you go to get Valid, Strict etc. etc., they offer a guide which is quite helpful as well.

For learning to slice, check this guide out, its helped a few good coders.

------------------

**Learn to code from scratch, once you know that, Dreamweaver is really useful in the department of organizing and making code easier for the developer. Also has a few cool features like highlighting (N++ does too) auto-closing tags etc. etc. Looking at site source codes helps you get a great understanding for coding as well (i.e functions, what makes this do that etc.). Good luck

use whatever you feel comfortable with. everyone will have their preferences and since your starting out, your biggest obstacle will be overcoming 'intimidating' code.

some starting off code links;

good luck!
