  Old  USA Education

Hello Guys,

I am currently in talks with several soccer coaches in the USA, in regards to a scholarship to study over there.

One of the schools is listed as a D3 NCAA school. I know what the NCAA means, I am just unsure as to the "Division 3" part. As far as I know, you have D1, D2, D3?

Do D1 have an advantage over D3?

Regards,

Craig.

That is how big they are, division three are the games you see on TV, division 2 and 1 are smaller sports colleges that you dont see much of.

The best of division 3 players go pro. But here is my advice, if you go pro stay away from US teams. In the states, soccer (European football) is somewhere between curling and polo in popularity.

So a D3 college could be a good move?

Does it mean anything academically, or is it just in terms of athletics?

Cheers.

Actually that's incorrect.

Division 1 is the elite of the athletes. I had offers to play football (not soccer) at quite a few Division 3 schools and a couple Division 2 schools. I declined because you don't get the best education for my field. Most of the Division 3 schools are liberal arts schools. Don't get me wrong, you could get an excellent education at one of them, it just depends on what field of study you wish to go in.

What schools are you in talks with, some D3 schools have excellent reputations for both academics and athletics.

You want to pick : D1 D3 then D2. The divisions are based on population, but over all any D1 school would beat most any D2 and D3 school.

Most professional scouts only look at D1 play.

Conrad, why do you say D3 over D2?

I have a nice offer from a D3 school, but I am going to look into D1 schools before I accept anything.

Surely you would go D1, D2 and then D3?

Craig.

Ya, that and soccer has a pretty solid following in the US, much more so than 5 years ago.
