punBB
Just wondering what everyones thoughts on punBB are?
From my small play with it, it seems to have covered the basics very well and its pretty straight forward to theme.
I have a client wanting a basic forum - they do not want to pay out for vB etc (its a minor project for them). I'm just tossing up between punBB and Vanilla 2.

I like Vanilla also, my only small concern is the target audience. The client is targeting, shall we say... less savvy users - the way you use Vanilla is a little different to a standard forum, it might throw them?

PunBB, from what I have seen, is a good forum software. From what I can remember the code that is used to run the forum is actually very solid (unlike other forums / CMSs). I would go with PunBB if the client want a VB/IPB like forum without the cost.
Vanilla is cool, but strange.

That's great, thanks for sharing the information. I am also looking for a forum software for my first forum. PunBB sounds like a good option other than phpBB and SMF.

What is the reason why you don't want to us to use phpBB? I have been into other forums that uses this software and I think it is good enough for a forum.

I despise vanilla, the forum structure is ugly and hard to navigate. If you need free, go with PHPBB, while the code isn't a gem there are tons of resources available for it. If you want quality, you need to pay for it.
However, to answer your question, I would recommend PunBB.

Imo, best VB free equivalent is MyBB and v1.6 will be closer even more.
