Totally agree. He's said that he's not claiming to be a design firm and that his core business is elsewhere.
Seems like a polite, friendly and intelligent bloke to me who is willing to accept constructive criticism... He's already said that his site will get another look after reading what was said on (tf).

Hi Robson,
don't worry, I can take it :-) The idealism of youth, such fond memories :-) It's a good thing actually, it helps to push the envelope which is how progress occurs.
Derek, Close enough is not the same as failure. Failure can just as easily be missing a deadline because one strived for perfection, when perfection is not required. You'll also notice that we don't claim to be experts in web design, graphics and logo design and such. I have however been building functional intranet sites since mid 90's before all the visual gadgets came into vogue. We now chose to build sites for some people and not others. We don't do a lot of graphics, intricate behaviours, Flash, etc. becuase it is not what we do.
Compromise is skill, a very necessary one to get work completed on time, on budget and meeting the requirements.
I look forward to seeing how you do with your deadline of April 15? :-) BTW Nice logo but I can't seem to find your trademark application, is it registered in Canada or elsewhere?

my point is missing a deadlne is failing to achive one's goal, so close enough still isn't successful. like i said before, it's all how you interpret the scenario. you can fail to meet the dealine, but still have a successful final project.
no one said to aim for perfection, but i like knowing it's not going to look like a do it yourslefer project. you're not trying to seell to me, so this debate is pretty much pointless so i'll leave it that - the do it yourself look displeases me.
and it willbe registered all in good time. technically, it's not even a company yet.

Hi Derek.l
Hey, we agree :-) Where the failure point in a project is vs. the goal very much depends on the project and the client. The scope-schedule-cost triangle is very useful in maintaining that visiblity as is change management and ongoing setting/changing expectations with a client.
Re TM, depending on the law firm it can be a relatively expensive process. It's possible to do this as an individual but while simple on the surface there are subtleties involved. It is of course a good thing to get prior use established, in the end that is often what prevails in case of disputes. In case you haven't been there yet, check out http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/sc_mrksv/c.../welcom-e.html
