Your program sounds similar to the certificate program I did, only with more coding, and that was labelled as a "get out into the field" type of course. In other words, sounds like a good start. =)

Since you've already done some self-teaching, you'll probably find Photoshop very easy and fun. It's easily one of my favorite programs.
