  Old  Creating an iPhone App

My friend and I have come up with some ideas for some iPhone applications but don't have the programming skills to create them by ourselves. I have read a bit about the Apple Developer Program but I don't really know what kind of programmer I need to hire. If I have some programming knowledge, do you think I could create it on my own using all the resources provided?

Anyone have experience with this or know someone who does? I will most likely end up hiring someone to develop these apps.

You should download the Iphone SDK and try it out. The UI is very neat. If you want to hire a programmer, be sure to get a Cocoa/#C programmer.

The folks at Ten23 Software have published a 37-page guide called Building PhotoKast: Creating an iPhone app in one month . This free resource is chock full of useful tips and recommendations for everything from design concept to monetization strategies.

You can build an iPhone app with the free SDK. However you need to pay the $99 annual developer fee in order to sell your application.

I have actually been learning to make iPhone/iPad apps. You need really someone who has experience in iPhone apps before to be honest. Even though it uses ObjC (a superset of C) and Cocoa and other frameworks, there are also methods in creating apps that are specific to the iPhone OS.

There are a few good courses out there, but if you have a mac, I'd download the SDK tools etc from the Apple Dev Area and have a play around

I've been looking into Titanium as a simpler way of building mobile apps:
http://www.appcelerator.com/

No real experience yet but looks interesting...

I don't have any experience in this platform but from the looks of it, it does seem like Titanium could produce something functional. How isn't it a "real" tool?

If you're referring to something built from the ground up, then it's probably not suitable for that but it does seem to be a good way to port over a PHP app. or something else to the iPhone/iPad. It reminds me of those tools out there that help make your PHP script Facebook compatible.
