I would recommend w3schools as well. If you aren't all that great with HTML, I recommend a book by Elizabeth Castro which also includes XHTML and CSS

Valid Transitional XHTML is very easy to hop over from HTML - in my opinion, but i still havn't made a valid strict XHTML page -_-'.

Strict XHTML isn't very different from HTML either. The main differences between XHTML and HTML are the / within tags all tags that you wouldn't have closing tag for (eg. <br />), you have to always have a closing tag for a tag you have opened and using lower case for tags (eg <body> instead of <BODY>. The W3C markup validation service helped me correct any mistakes when I first started using XHTML.

I learned a lot of XHTML by just validating it as XHTML and checking for errors... Then fix the errors. It will just about tell you everything you need to know!
