looking for feedback on a design concept - yesthat.com
Hi,
Before I start, I would like to make one thing clear. I am not a designer and I don’t claim to be one. I am aware that this design is perhaps… overly simple; but that is the look I was trying to achieve.
When I opened up photoshop this morning I had no intentions of creating a layout, it just sort of happened. Normally I would just pay someone to do it.
Depending on how this design concept is perceived by some of the better designers on these forums will determine weather I actually use this design or not.
Any comments are much appreciated.
Thanks!
Jon

I think it looks pretty good actually Jon, of course it could use some primping and pampering in places, and an overall tidy around in appearance. But the main structure and scheme of the design is in place which is great.

Thanks for the quick reply Anthony.
What bits do you think need primping and pampering?

I think you used to many different fonts and text sizes.
As an example in the header you have 5 lines of text, one large line, two smaller lines and then two lines that are a bit bigger again.
The colour scheme you used is pretty nice.

The parts that I believe would need a little primping would be the content title styles, you know the green horizontal bars which holds the header text? Tune these up and style the typography a little bit and now you're talking. The navigation is really good to start with, looks fine as it is.
Another major point would be the way the content is laid out and how consistent it is. At the moment (this may seem a bit wierd in reading) it looks like just some photoshopped filler text, without any regards to how it is to be styled etc. Try and make it more real. Use bold and italics and vary the sizes of your filler text.

Pretty good overall. Two suggestions:
On the rollover (properties) add the effect that you used on the bottom right hand side of the template, looks like a peice of folded paper, that would be cool.
Secondly, the bottom left of the template, you have gray gradient that looks out of place.

Looks good. Is it intentional that the 90% bar doesn't have a border on the top? And are the background gonna be green? I think it could look cool if you made the background some neutral color like white/grayish. Good work. To me it doesn't seem overly simple.
