It's fricken awesome. Why doesn't anyone use it?

It hardly pales. In the respect that it's designed for a completely different purpose (web graphics as opposed to general graphics editing) it is miles ahead of Photoshop.

Essentially, photoshop is a bitmap program with rudimentary vector capabilities. Fireworks is a vector program with decent bitmap capabilities.

it streamlines the whole process of making and slicing web layouts and produces much more efficient coding than Imageready ever could (not that I use that feature...since I've gone CSS I only use it for the graphics themselves)

Plus its a lot better value for money..

I DO use it! In fact, it's pretty much all I use.

Photoshop is also miles ahead of it in bitmap capablities. Most designers do not require the work of the built in scripter, as well as, illustrator goes hand and hand with PS for vectoring(was well illustrator's vector features are by far past firework's.). I do suppose it's an ok choice if you are not familar with all the workings of a basic website.

I had to use Fireworks in school for some course. I had been using photoshop for a few years already and fireworks just didn't measure up at all in my mind. I found it to be a weak program but probably a good one for beginners. (not saying whoever uses it is a beginner).

To me it comes down to personal preferance. You can create the same websites with both of them, just depends on how you use each program. I personally don't like the interface of fireworks.

Agreed, personal preference. I don't like the interface of Photoshop

Fireworks is a great program and i use it but u cant really compare it with PS as PS is more for bitmap and graphics and things and FW is more for vectors and things with shapes. FW handles shapes much better than PS imo. but its easier to handle layer styles in PS imo.

but overall both programs are awesome and hard to compare to each other.
