Java

Is java really a suitable language for games, I mean look at runescape.. How many other online games work using java?

I don't think there's really an answer to your question. Is it suitable? Certainly, if by suitable you mean "will it work?". However, you probably had something else in mind, in terms of speed, resource usage, graphics, etc... the answer is, it depends. I know that I could turn out something a lot better in Java than I could in C++. YMMV.

Java and JavaScript are very different languages.

Flash / ActionScript maybe better for online games.
