is it wrong to use joomla?
Hi there,
I am a web designer just starting up my own company. I will be offering websites to clients based on Joomla CMS. Do you think this is bad? Should I have my own CMS written?
Thanks!

I build sites with Joomla, WordPress, etc etc. Do you use a text editor to write your code in? It's no different.
If you claim to own Joomla on the other hand, then yes, that is wrong.

I do not want to own it, but just use it. I just didnt know if it was 'morally' wrong to use it being i'm a designer.

Of course you are not morally wrong to use it. However, if you have the time and expertise to develop your own cms then you should do that.

I wanted to ask the same question OP asked. Why is individually written codes better than open-source?

I really don't know other than from a security viewpoint. The larger open source cms are used a lot, they also have their hackers following them and trying to exploit their vulnerabilities. If you have a custom cms you are a lot less likely to get hacked, as your system is unique.
Maybe i'm wrong, a programmer would be best to answer this.

I see nothing wrong with using free scripts. I mean, that's what they are there for right. You are a designer after all, and the service you are offering is the design. Your not a coder offering a CMS that you claim to have made. Also on the plus point the client gets a whole community of users and plugins.

It really depends on what version. The good thing is with non-custom software is that there is always a new update or a community behind it constantly trying to update it and make it more secure.
