Old  converting from ASP to php/cgi

Hey folks, I don't know much about programming, but I have a site built in ASP (hosted on a windows platform, MSSQL).

Could the site be changed into php/cgi (linux hosting, MySQL)? How long do you think it would take, and roughly how big of an investment would it require...

I'm trying to cut back on hosting costs, and windows MS SQL hosting is kind of pricy compared to linux MySQL..

The site is http://www.constructiongiant.com

Thanks in advance

It would require a complete recode if you wanted it in php, which probably wont be cheap.
One option is to find a host that provides ASP support for Linux (Chilisoft ASP), which is probably your best option, although i dont know how well it works.

A few things.

1) Never go from one language to another unless there is a very important key role involved.

2) MySQL client can be ran on Windows.

3) PHP can be ran on Windows with MySQL/MSSQL.

The thing is, don't cheap out on hosting. If you are using a shared host, the difference between Linux/Windows and PHP/ASP is irrelevant.

Once you provide your own hosting, or you are paying tons for dedicated servers, then that's when you choose the best language that fits your budget, likes, dislikes, and the best operating system that fits your software. Do not choose the operating system just because you like one over the other, certain software excels on certain operating systems.

Goodluck.
