Frames dead?
Hey everyone, I remember back in the day (96 era) when the Internet boom kicked off, frames were the thing to have on a website. Does anyone else remember this? You had the navigation in one frame and the content in another. I'm just wondering what happened to frames, I hardly see them being used today. Just wondering if they're dead?

Generally yes, they're dead but still often being used in lets say... admin control panels for forum software.

Its good that they are mostly gone but they are still used quite a bit, especially for people making 'frontpage websites'

As Saalthe said they are used in admin panels as then only the side frame gets loaded once, but aside from that, even tables beat frames.

Meta Tags and frames don't work so well together.

That is one of the main reasons that frames have died. They also look amateurish and unprofessional IMO.
Most of the people that used to use frames probably did because of how much easier it was to update sites with frames. Without frames, If you wanted to add a new page you would have to go through every page on the site and add the link to the new page. With frames you would only have to change 1 page.
This most probably started changing when more servers started to support server side languages that allowed you to make content management systems.
Anyway, Good riddance.

I use IFRAME for some site I don't have PHP support on. They are OK, I have nothing to complain about.

Frames do have a great functional use in admin control panels, but yep, they're well and trully dead now thanks to the general shift away from nasty applications like frontpage
