Old  Major syntax differences between JS and ActionScript?

Could someone tell me any major syntax differences between Javascript and Actionscript? I'm hoping to learn Flash (specifically, Flex), but it seems like there's a lot of differences even between the simple declaration of variables.

most of the functions are diffrent, but if your good with javascript, then you will be able to understand things better, like loops and such remain the same. Even declaring of object like a new sound object and the basic concepts like using classes and reading XML files is the same. But its a completely diffrent language with a diffrent purpose, i recommend a good book and/or some sample projects (try pixel2life for tutorials)

well. actually if you are good in abstract programming (just a overall programming skill) - you will learn javascript/action script/any other language easily. It's just a matter of experience.

Hello Ryura

Well I'm not sure what your career path you want to take design/developing but if you are interested in programming I would suggest you learn an OOP (Object Oriented Programming) language as your first language. Actionscript CS3 is OOP in case your interested.

Once you have the syntax of one language down it is very easy to pickup another language because a lot of flow is that same, such as functions, loops, if/else statements, constants, classes etc. Hope this help you to decide.

Also, if you're looking into learning Flex, you'll need to start looking into MXML which is a not too hard to pickup and a lot of fun to work with.
