I recommend both of you read this article before you continue to argue about dual and quad core processors. It will answer the all mighty question: http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/11/08/dual_vs_quad/

Alright, I just installed the Crysis demo. Here are my benchmarks for the settings.

First off, my system for those who didn't read the first post:

Core 2 Duo E6420 (2.13Ghz)
Asus P5N32E-SLI
PNY XLR8 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 Dual Channel
EVGA 8800GTS 640MB
Western Digital Raptor 150GB hard drive
Gateway 19" Widescreen

FPS are taken at the top of the command post that you investigate, near the shore in and around the shack that is on top of the cliff. 1440x900 screen resolution.

Quality/Anti Aliasing/Average FPS

Low, AA off, FPS varies from 40-90.

Low, AA 8x, 25 FPS average.

Low, AA 16x (max), 20 FPS average.

Med, AA off, 40 FPS average.

Med, AA 8x, 30 FPS average.

Med, AA 16x, 20 FPS average.

High, AA off, 27 FPS average.

High, AA 8x, 17 FPS average.

High, AA 16x, 10 FPS average, dipping into the low single digits every now and then.

All calculations were made with FRAPS and a rough estimate. I just stood still, and looked around. There were lots of detail in the scene, and both long and short distances of places to look. For me, Med with 8x AA worked the best. I can tell the difference between all quality levels, and whenever I adjust the AA. Low quality sucks, especially with AA turned off. High quality with AA on 16x looked gorgeous, but its unplayable for me. Please note that the demo doesn't let you max out the graphics, there is still one more notch above High called Very High.

Oh yea, the game kicks ass

Just a quick note - the very high settings aren't too much higher than the high settings. It just activates the DX 10 effects, which do make a bit of difference! (At last )

He basically just agreed with most of my points.

Though Marky you have one flaw. Well it's most likely you didn't really mention it, but when you OC your CPU, your also OC'ing your RAM. So if you get some crap ram you'll have to turn the timing's right down which will effect your loading times quite a bit. Though it doesn't matter too much if your not maxing your OC. Though it's good to get some RAM with a heatsink...

You could download the demo and see how you run it. My specs are slightly better than yours but I am on XP running on DX 9c. Runs fine for me on ultra high settings

High or very high?

The dual is a good option for gaming if you'll only do gaming. I got myself a Q6600 and went from stock 2.40 ghz to OC 3.2 ghz, it doesn't get hot, and my 8800gts does a good job with Crysis, I'm running all on high, no AA, and one or two settings on very high, other than that, the game runs smooth and well.
