They seem to be regaining market once again after their closure of free IPB. It's just taking them some time.

I have always been a vbulletin person myself but on my most recent project have been playing around with IPB. Although I am loving IPB at the moment, there are things that I am missing like the vbulletin.org community with loads of add ons that just aren't there for IPB. I think if you want just a forum that does the job go for IPB, but if you want to build on the forum, add more features and make it into a community, your better off sticking to vb.
I can agree with that.
Currently I think IPB is a little bit ahead with their implementation of their profile system, groups, blogs and galleries, but vB is releasing some huge improvements these couple of months.

Like mentioned also the vb.org community is a great addon.

This board (TF) is also a great example of this you could manage with your vB license

I decided to go with vB for the gaming forum, an IPB for the other that will just be a forum and no added and etc. Thanks for all the info and past experience guys

Hah, the graph explains all! Yeah, I would defiantly go with VB because of the mods, security, add ons etc. Theres a steep price to it, but sadly its VB hands down!

bumping this up for questions

Okay, well I am buying a vB license off a member for $100. But I don't have an account there, will he have to give me his account? Or can I register on the site?

The vBulletin team give you an account when they transfer the license. They then give you the username and password in another email.

You probably would've been better off going with IPB for the gaming forum, then vB for the other. Since IPB seems to be the software of choice for most gaming/'gfx'/etc forums.

Personally, I'd go with vBulletin. It's easier to manage than IPB.

I have been using most likely ipb for the last few years (<3 skinning).
But vB its way better, more secure, easy mod installing (you don't have to edit loads of files like IPB), and a unique community of modders.

I am currently selling my ipb license because i want to try vb.
