Old  How to find inspiration when designing web pages

To find a decent page color scheme and layout is rather frustrating when designing a website template.

I love googling keywords to find dozens of similar sites for reference.
Save as those pages or make screenshots. But it is also voluminous work.

I try each google-like site at http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/S.../Google/Tools/
and find www.ggler.com is quite helpful. With the search results there are thumbnails for sites. It is great.

You're definitely right. This is one of the coolest sites I've seen this year:
http://www.stephaneguillot.com

That's cuz I haven't been browsing much though but you gotta admit, it's way cool.

look at print work. personally the worst thing you can do when you hit a creative block is look at other things of the same medium - it just leads you to rip off ideas.

I usually look at really great pieces from sites like fcukstar.com and styleboost.com. Great work. That usually sends the creative side of my mind spinning again (that and some Enya playing in the background ).

I like to look at some of the pictures I have taken. Usually something from a signs in a city shot or a nice landscape.

Good point dereklapp.

Lately, I seem to be gettin inspiration and ideas from the strangest place and I'm loving it. For instance, i visited reebok website and got inspiriation from their, nor from the site, but from allen iverson. It's weird. Also, photography seems to be a source of inspiration now.

I try not to look for inspiration on other websites. As if I see something of incredible quality, I begin to doubt my own design skills.

Ya, I hear ya on that. I don't tend to doubt as much as think, "Why didn't I think of that?!?!?"

I try to design for the content as much as possible, and the audience. The rest often takes care of itself as I go along.
