Unfortunately for a practice/display of your html/css markup skills...it leaves a lot to be desired; basic errors have been made.

I also think typographically this fails...

Its the sort of "design" that is extremely hard to pull off. Only truely experienced typographers tend to build entire layouts based solely off type.

With almost any sort of creative medium, my personal opinion is - typography not only makes or breaks a design, but is also the hardest discipline to master.

For something this simple I don't think wasting time in PS is necessary.

In that case it will probably not get improved.

This isn't a permanent portfolio. It's a quick splash page to cater for the domain, and considering I have a number of current, new and returning clients, the majority of the work being print and design, I don't think that the markup quality within this has any influence on my search for employment.

I'm currently in the process of designing a much more interesting graphical design for the splash page within photoshop. This was really a test of my markup skills.

The HTML markup is awful, to understate the problem. I get the impression from comments later in the topic that you're not going to really take in any serious replies, so why waste time outlining the numerous problems with your markup except to say that they're there and they're bad.

Please, please, please if you're serious about learning how to mark up a HTML document then go back to the textbooks (or websites) and take a big refresher course. I'm sure we (the community) would be more than willing to discuss this type of thing (something this site's lacking!) if you're willing to have your work picked to pieces.
