I've only ever used Extensis suitcase, but this could be worth checking out..

EDIT: Except it doesn't seem have the feature I love most about Extensis - the ability to load and unload fonts at will meaning I dont need to keep my 3000 fonts in the system registry, meaning my system performance is much better.

Never used Adobe Type Library.
This worked pretty good for what was needed
and doesn't hog alot of memory.

I'm going to use this instead of Fontlister. It is way less resource hungry.
