I would recommend a spoken language opposed to a programming language as a starter, may I suggest English?

Anyway, PHP is my favorite, although I have (minimal) experience in asp.net 2.0 (C#), CGI, ASP, ColdFusion, Perl, Ruby and ROR.

Completely off topic, Idiot. No-one cares which spoken language you would recommend, at least not in a programming topic.

I'd also like to add, on topic, that I personally feel that getting at least a basic understanding of a wide range of languages is more useful than going from newbie to 'expert' in a single language. That way you can experience for yourself the good, bad and average points of differing approaches to programming. Only then can you start to have a more balanced opinion on which languages you might 'like'.
