Old  Are dreamweaver and frontpage really that bad?

I'm just starting to get into coding and i would like to know what everyone thinks about these products. I have always heard how awful frontpage is and just this evening a few of my friends told me that dreamweaver is just as bad, is this true? I always thought it was a decent package to learn from!

It's not bad but if you want to code properly then it is better to code from scratch rather then relying on editors such as these..

forntpage is the worst tool in the world. . . I use dreamweaver for standard coding, its no where near as bad as frontpage but you still tend to get shouted at for using it lol - you can make layouts that work in most browsers using DW tho' but its tables which people dont seem to like anymore

Do not use frontpage but dreamweaver can be ok. I use dreamweaver if I have forgotten a simple command like cellpadding etc.. and just take a look there.

Dreamweaver is good, if you get a book on it theres a **** load of features you'd never know if you just had the software.

I was like that, I thought it was just like Frontpage until I read a book on it.

I use Dreamweaver now and it is not bad at all, I used to code in Notepad but there's no organisation whatsoever.

Dreamweaver is good because:
The code is coloured
You can make tables instantly (I used to forget tags in Notepad )
You can make forms very easy
and probably some other stuff but I don't know >_>

It's not bad, because it's always better than using Notepad

if you don't understand the language without them, yes they really are.

someone who can create something from scratch (by hand in notepad for exampl) can use front page just as effectively as deamweaver as notepad. the reason these became popular is because is saved typing time. 3 clicks can give you the core table structure for a website. it's just eaiser than typing out <table cell.... manually. i only go by hand, because i use tableless structures anyways, so i don't gain very much. plus, it keeps me sharp to stupid quirks i find.

the problem is, then things like kazaa came out and everybody got them without having a single clue how to use them, and they've becoms as degrated as lense flairs to the industry.

it's a general rule of thumb for anything: if you don't know what you're doing, you're going to **** up. period. if you want to spend the money to get them, go right ahead. there's nothing wrong with them. but make sure you know the langaue or you're paying money to screw up where you could screw up for free. +)

Everyone i meet seems to ahte frontpage when i reckon its very good... especially for beginners into coding.

i think that dreamweaver have just taken it too far for beginners and you can just do to many complex things by the click on a button so no one learns anything. i also dont like the ay tabels etc. are done in dreamweaver.

I have used both frontpage and dreamweaver to design sites and found both lacking in many ways.
Frontpage is definitely the worser of the 2 but i would not recommend dreamweaver for a beginner.
i would suggest working in a editor like notepad or something and get the basics thorough then go to frontage and then dreamweaver
and then make up your own mind.
once you get to know the coding basics well enough you will be able to decide which tool you would like better.
