  Old  Weird ipod problem.

Okay, maybe some of you guys on tfl can shed some light on this problem of mine.

I usually run all the time with my ipod, and recently I started to notice the voice (singing) in the songs would cut out, and I would simply hear the background music (without singing). So, I figured it was my headphones. Today, I went and bought some brand new ones that worked with my old cd player, but the same problem persisted on my ipod. Yet, I did notice if I twisted the headphone jack around and pressed into the ipod, I could faintly hear the singing. So, obviously, the problem is with my ipod.

Any ideas, anyone! I am desperate to use my ipod again.

As long as you have the songs on your home computer, I say try resetting the ipod (holding menu and center button) or doing a restore because by the sounds of it, its a software issue.

Sounds like a loose ribbon/wire inside the iPod.
Open it up and check that things are connected properly; If you've never opened it before, make sure you read a how-to about it. Else you may end up killing it completely.

It does sound like something is loose (the singing part of the headphone jack isn't touching, is what I get from it works after pushing harder). Open it up, and hope for the best :P

The singing part of a song just doesn't go away like that. Its not like its a Photoshop layer, where the vocals are on layer 1 and instrumental on layer 2. Therefore if the vocals are cutting off, does the instrumental sound different? You can get rid of vocals by messing with the EQ's, however in most cases the instrumental will sound different. Therefore I think it is a problem with your hardware, as in a problem with the computer chips.

When you're not using your iPod do you keep the phones plugged in with the cables wrapped around the player itself? That used to kill Creative Zen Micro jacks. Don't do it.

Luk-3s testimonial (for lack of a better word) is convincing but I agree with James-H in that you can't simply remove singing and leave instrumentals.
I wouldn't be too surprised if its just a problem with the song file (that really would be funny). However you said that twisting the headphones jack helps to recover some of the vocals so I'm reeeeally stumped.

I guess go with Luk-3 and Indy. Sounds like they know their stuff

stereo music works with different levels..vocals being one of them. just because we cant see this easily doesnt means that not how they are read. a glitch can prevent the levels from being recieved correctly.
