Interesting concept, but I would have a few concerns. How would the OP and bidder communicate to each other if the bidder cannot see replies? How would bidders follow the progress of an auction and bid that little bit extra to become top of the list again?

The only time that people shouldn't bid more is if someone has already made a BIN offer on an item so I'm not sure where the "already taken the sale" is coming from.

In light of the new staff and recent changes. While it's still the rule yet, and my personal feeling, I think from here on out this should be reinforced and handled with an iron fist. I know everyone feels a need to give props/praise to a seller, but it's hypocrite to punish those bashing sales, but allowing praises and props.

The rule is clearly stated, Rule #3 under the rules for the markeplace, that there shouldn't be any conversation within sale threads. It only clutters the sale, and then everyone has to dig/wade through "praises / props" to find their answer.

Praises and props to users DO help though, it helps their sales, but yet on the other hand, it slows down the sales because people have to wade through frivolous stuff to find what they're looking for, the actual sale progress itself. I know it's tempting to reply with fluffy nice replies, but it would be pointless, because they'll be removed anyway. However, each moderator can handle this accordingly and some might let them slip by... But I won't. Not trying to be a ****, but rules are rules.

Going along with that, remember everyone should post the correct sale threads, in the correct forums. Anything with a BIN $100.00 or ABOVE, is allowed in the Premium forum, anything with a BIN $100 or LOWER should go in the Budget forum. Any thread containing more then one item, but holding a bin of $100 or lower, should still go in the Budget forums. Groups of designs for sale within a thread, all with BINS $100 or higher, are allowed in the Premium forum.

There's a Private Message function for anyone to use, regarding possible rip-offs, theft, praises, bashing, arguments and etc. Anything else can be reported, using the report feature.

Note: It's a one point infraction for fluffy / props or bashing posts in marketplace.

I think it'd be a good idea to have users contribute to the forum by helping people first or writing a good article/tutorial before being able to post in the marketplace. They want to take advantage of the members - first let the members take advantage of them. We would have to obviously Google if the article/tutorial isn't a rip. Would have to be written in clear and correct English and usable. Could be a PHP script/tutorial for instance. Or let a user help 10 people before being able to post in the marketplace (answers after the question is answered shouldn't count obviously). That'd stop people from spamming and push them towards contributing and helping others.

Basically, having / allowing the members to help contribute to the board, while helping themselves at the same time? Sounds like a good idea to me Sam...

Helping someone is too rare, there just aren't as many questions as posters. Articles are too big to ask for and we would end up with 99% of them being plagiarized. We really don't have enough going for us to make demands like that at this point. That would absolutely kill the marketplace.

I agree with your assessment however I would have to say the Marketplace is pretty much dead already and has been for quite some time (aside from the occasional shocker).

The amount of garbage in the marketplace makes me want to cry sometimes - I barely ever go in there nowadays...

Helping someone might be rare but it'd be a way to contribute. Article writing is too much to demand? 1 article and the marketplace is open for you to post in. Everyone that comes here has a skill/specialism in one thing or another (other than spamming), if we can use that to get quality content regularly on the site it's good for the community.

It should be a honour to post in the marketplace, too many people take it for granted & spam the board just o access it. The majority of people that come here simply don't care about "TalkFreelance". They just want to make a quick buck and spam their services every now and then - and that's not the way to go about in a community. If you just let people post junk in the marketplace, it'll get out of control, the serious people that come here won't bother filtering through the crap being posted and serious members will receive less views on their sale threads - people will be less bothered going through all the marketplace threads & pages to find what they need.

If you really want to go open the marketplace for everyone to post in, atleast have an area or filter for dedicated members or quality sellers - but again, this would create arguments. You have to remember, quality threads over quantity. But I don't think this is the right road to go down in all honesty (just my point of view).

no offense spencer but how many times have you posted in the market place something along these lines.

"nice design too bad I don't have any money because I spent it on rum LOL"

if your going to enforce these rules then you should abide by them.

And Sam I 100% agree with this comment

"The amount of garbage in the marketplace makes me want to cry sometimes - I barely ever go in there nowadays..."

Mind you I am not a designer I just buy build and sell it's actually quite pathetic some of the crap that's being sold. When I joined here a couple years ago it was nothing but quality stuff.

I know I had done it BEFORE. Have I posted fluff since becoming moderator though? Nope. Besides that, I even went through the more recent posts, and some older posts, cleaning up older fluff, including my own. Going along with that remark, I've been given infractions for what fluff I had added before as well.

So it's not like I got off Scott-Free or anything. Everyone did post fluff before, but with the new staff team now, and changes being made, it's got to stop though. Rules were made for a reason. Just before, there wasn't that many active moderators to enforce the rules. Or they just didn't want to really bother with it. I don't know.
