Highlighted Forum Discussions
The one thing I like about the SitePoint forums is with that weird view they have that you can view specific threads sectioned out by staff as being good threads with relevent informtion for highlighted forum discussion. Something like that here would probably work wonders, and would be nice for drawing more people into posting.

Hi Michael, it's something i've wanted to do for ages but with this design it hasn't really been easy! I've been considering a redesign for a while but everytime I say that people are like "NO!" because they love this one so much, if Tarun wasn't such an ass it would be easy
So i'm going to think long and hard about what to do.....I definitly agree with you and have wanted to create a portal like page for a while, with articles/highlighted discussions and other static pages. It would work wonders not just for drawing more people in but for building quality content and expanding into more of a resource site.

Robson, why not go ahead and redesign the site but also have this has a style you can select or have it as a default.

That's a possibility...but obviously the new site would have far more features, such as portal/articles and such. This skin doesn't really work for alot of the things i'd like to do with Talkfreelance. In an ideal world I would have site wide banner advertising which allows my advertisers to get more bang for their buck, i'd also like a freelance directory for all my great members to add their portfolios and resources, along with blogs/article system.
So, if I did redesign Talkfreelance this skin would merely be just that.

I'm all for the new skin. You want to bring more customers so why not a new and improved skin and features to do the job.

It's not just a case of deciding to go out and buy a new skin, something like this (especially with a community of this size) takes very careful planning and implementation. I have no problems with the current design, I love it but it simply doesn't allow for much development forward.
I have thought about this hard over the last few months and i'm not 100% sure a new design would be the solution, half the members would hate it and leave, half would love it....the tweeners would come and go. New skins have a habit of making or breaking a forum. Aside from the skin the new elements such as a custom built blogging system/directory and knowledge base isn't something that can be achieved overnight (or for the new year) if I do decide a new site is whats required the earliest you could expect to see it is the summer.
I'm all for ideas though and it would be interesting to see what the community feel about the possibility of a new design/site.....i'll post a poll up tommorow!

Even if you make a blog for the project so we all can see where it is leading and we all can have a say in it and mostly everyone will be happy.

Great minds think alike. Anyways, I trust you will make the better choice for the community, and yourself.
