  Old  Yaxay - don't bother

After reading several peoples posts about yaXay and their contests I figured I'd go take a look.

There was a photography contest/event being run by one of the admins and backed by who I assume to be the forum owner. This seemed to be a good place to start I thought so I took several photographs and submitted the best as my entry.

When the contest came to an end I was the only entrant - shame for the event but good for me as I'd won the $30 first prize by default. Or so you'd think...

The admin that had organized this first tried to escape their responsibility to pay the prize by saying that I'd missed the deadline for the contest - I hadn't. I pointed this out to them which they accepted but rather than accept their obligation to pay me the prize money they decided to end the event without a winner, even though it had already finished.

So if you are thinking of entering a contest at yaXay, don't bother.

I noticed this, it was his own fault and he should admit that and pay. Even so he should pay for your time, you were the only one to enter thus you deserve some sort of recompensation.

Thats a bad thing.
Just because your the only one that enterered, fair enough, you took the time to do it and a man at the top should have the decency to pay up.

Actually Tech-Four, I'm an administrator over there. The contest did not get a winner, because there was only one entry. Who would the second place prizes go to?..

In this situation, with every yaxay CONTEST, if there are very few entrants (we've had a few contest with 2 or less entrants) then we choose not to assign winners. It is just how things are done... why should the contest holder pay out the prize if people can't be bothered to enter? Not much of a contest if only one person submits something.

Feel free to gather your own opinions, but the action is done and won't be undone.

Why should the one person that made the effort and entered your contest be penalised because nobody else bothered?

I was wondering the same. Do you have a link to the contest thread though? It would be interesting to see the terms, like if it says anywhere minimum participants: 5 or something.

Here is seen.to's entry: http://forum.yaxay.com/showthread.php?t=36986

Make your own assumptions, but I can sympathize with Salathe. Usually people get paid $30 for an hour's work if they are a professional in their field. This obviously took less than 10 seconds to do and I don't see much thought/quality in the photo anyways. I would understand seen.to's argument if their was a symbolic/incentive to his posting the photo but obviously it is just for the money. I seriously doubt you took this photo with the sole intent to post it on yaXay. You probably saw the contest and the number of entrants (or lack thereof) and wanted to capitalize on the situation. Whatever, just my viewpoints on this.

Regards,
Matt
