I think it's to stop spammers PMing people from the member list. Although I'd wait for an official answer from Artashes.

Why not make it so that you need 15 posts to view other peoples profiles.

We have a "full member" usergroup to let people post in the marketplace, you could just base it off that usergroup.

As Gaz said, to prevent unwanted PMs or spam. If you need to PM someone, you usually know who you are PMing to, because it was either requested by that member through marketplace or you just know the person you are trying to reach.

Seems a weak argument but fair enough.
It was a useful page.
Perhaps in the future you will enable it again.

May I ask why you would want the member list?
You can still search for a username...
If it helps with spam then it is definitely justified.

Not sure how the memberlist was useful. You seem to find anything to pick about on this forum for the sake of picking on it.
If something new has been disabled/changed around, just take it with a grain of salt rather than always having some sort of confrontational response to it.

I'm sure there were other ways, but I used to use the member list to search for someone (to view their profile, posts, whatever). I don't do much of that these days but it was nice to see who'd recently joined and was active, or see who was moving up the post-count top list (yeah yeah, post count counts for naught). Those details are (erm, were) only a DB query away but it was easy to use the UI to satisfy those urges.
Is it a big deal to not have the member list? Probably not. However the reason for doing so seems pretty stupid (pardon my frankness). Is PM spam really such a problem: indeed, was the member list actually the data source for it if it is occurring a lot? Unsolicited PM messages certainly weren't happening with any degree of magnitude or regularity when I was keeping an eye on things and actual complaints/member-reports of it happening were very rare.
For any PM spammers out there, just keep an eye on the who's online page for your victims advertising recipients—they're the most likely to read your messages anyway.

Truuuue. Although I don't think I ever had an issue with PM spam here (nor other places like WHT where you'd think it might be a bit more rampant.)
