  Old  Trustworthy online pay services

So first off, there's PayPal, the king... What I'm wondering about is if there are any other similar services with a good history behind them. I just think it's weird that I can't find any company yet that has decided to pick up the challenge and try and provide a better service than PayPal. Undoubtedly, this would also result in a positive development for PayPal, once they get some competition.

E-gold? I've heard about them a lot.

Wow, e-gold huh? Does sound quite promising, but I tend to let my first impression affect my judgement quite a bit, and what I see here is a not-that professional looking website for a company that should definately have a dollar or two to spend on a more elaborate and more easy-on-the-eye layout...

And Google Checkout hm? Never heard of that either, but it didn't come as a shock that google is getting a piece of that pie as well But, it sounds like it's only for online stores. Can it also be used for personal transactions, like me paying you to create a web-design for me?

- Haha, I know. I don't really get their talk about their stash of gold and whatnot, but it seems like they're trying to say "we're loaded, and there's not a chance that we'll suddenly go broke". So why don't they fetch one of their goldbars and build an awesume looking website for a start?

Such an insightful post, thanks for affirming this for me.

I've used e-gold in the past, and because it's matched to the stock price of gold (hell, you can get the amount of gold - obviously in relatively large amounts - sent to you) I've actually made money with the balance just sitting there. Not only did the gains in gold wipe out the transaction fees (IIRC they're around the same as Paypal) but i made a fraction of what was in there as well.

The only problem with e-gold is transferring the money to your bank account, and you need to pay another transaction fee to a third party site to do this.

Stick with PP though - it works perfectly fine if you stick by the book.

Ye I guess PayPal is the service to go for, and I didn't expect to learn otherwise really. Was just hoping that maybe somewhere out there there's some company on the rise to become a fierce competitor for PP. That e-gold company might not be that bad, but if you ask me it gets a little complicated for people without much business insight or whatever one chooses to call it...
