  Old  Internet Explorer 7 Announced

http://www.sitepoint.com/blog-post-view.php?id=234459

Microsoft stirred up developers across the Web yesterday by announcing that it would release Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP, with beta versions becoming available by the middle of this year. A close look at the announcement, however, suggests little or no work will be done on the rendering engine, the bane of Web designers everywhere.

Solid information about just what will be in IE7 is hard to come by. My gut feeling is that the people who will be building IE7 got the news around the same time we did, and they're still scrambling to define just what they can do in the time available.

The one thing we can be sure of at this stage is that Microsoft will market IE7 as a more secure browser, in the same vein as the Windows XP SP2 update. The intention seems to be to stem the flow of users to alternatives like Mozilla Firefox.

The question on the minds of Web designers everywhere: will Microsoft sneak in any improvements to the way the browser displays Web pages at the same time? At this stage, there is nothing to suggest they will, but we can always hope!
Looks like the rendering engine is gonna remain unchange. In English, this means that at the most, IE will get a better pop-up blocker, and maybe Tabbed Browsing if you're VERY VERY lucky.

Instead of a proper release, it just looks like Bill Gates is trying to counter the Firefox hype by adding some hype of his own.

I truley believe you, I am using Firefox 1.0 right now, to be quite honest, 'eh, IE has a long way to go, tabbed browsing, better pop-up blocking, and maybe to spice it up, a scan of a file before download to make sure it doesn't have any viruses or spyware in it.

IN conclusion, they need to get going QUICKLY.

True that, but then again, some people cannot afford one, there are bills and multiple other money-taking problems in the world today.

True, but people are lazy, so Firefox is the perfect product for them. Guess who wins?

Your assumeing these lazy people will put the effort into downloading something new. Not that it can claim it will never give you a virus, or that it alone sloves the problem.

Actually on that thought, Microsoft are planning to release an Antivirus. Maybe that's part of their plan to keep users switched to IE?

You know what would really kick ass? If Firefox had it's own Antivirus/Adware/Spyware extension made by a company like Symantec or Sophos. It'd destroy IE if Firefox could boast that kind of security for it's users.

Absolutely, come on now, I mean, if people cannot afford it, then Microsoft should start using some of that petty cash Bill Gates has and start investing in its customers instead of making stupid service packs that don't even do its job right most of the time.
