Design Attempt; Please Rate

Hello, I feel like I was doing.. OK when i started with the background. But once I got into the heading and links, it got horrible and I decided to see what I was doing wrong.

Personally, I don't think it turned out quite how I wanted it to, im disapointed but im just starting with design.

I get the feeling that its a dark design, and I was trying to lighten it up with the blue and green, but it didnt work. Gave up....

Any suggestions on how I can improve would be great, going to work on another one for more practice.

Well, let's see here. It's a good start, but the blue "Website Name" really dosen't stand out enough. It blends into the background. I'd find a really cool font, then do the lettering in White, or Light Blue, so it would stand out againts the dark background. Oh, and make the logo a picture too, instead of using typed text. I like the border box. Can we see how you're going to fill it inside?

Well, I didn't put time into the logo at all because i was just aiming on getting the overall design down....

But thank you for your comments, ill make sure to take them and make the best use of them. I will work on it more and try to lighten it up, any ideas on how i can?

The inside I wasnt working on either till I finish the header and background...but its next. Think it has potential?

i think the space between the logo and the links could be tightened up a bit, they seem really far apart.

its hard to say much because there is a lack of content (i understand its not finished) so with what you have supplied i would maybe sugest to alter the appearance of the links altogether. they dont really stand out to me.

I cant really pin point exactly what im thinking of but the balance of the design itself seems to be off. maybe read up on the principles and elements of design. the rule of thirds always helps too. maybe once you post an updated page i will be able to give you better criticism. but its looking good for your first attempt so take the criticism you get from everyone as constructive as possible. it takes time, but you'll get there.

i would also sugest finding a website you like and maybe getting some inspiration from that. take alook around the web, theres alot of good stuff right in front of you.

the colors are to "OLD" i dont like it

i think, it's all about Typography, Colors, and buttons hehehe..
kinda look empty..

The striped background with the blue font is hard to look at :/ Try to learn the basics of color theory.
