  Old  Business Type?

Hey,

Another question for all of you. If I wanted to register a web design company as a legal business in the United States, what type should I register it as. I currently have two staff members including my self (if that helps), but am looking for room to expand.

Thanks,
Remix

You should contact your state or your county and then pay like $35 to make it a registered company. Then ... idk what to do from there. LoL, I know you will have to pay taxes to have it though >:O

Well, considering you are 14 (as indicated from your status) i am unsure as to whether you are legally required to pay taxes on the business. Do you have an office? How much are you making a month? Isn't 16 the legal age for work anyway.....

I guess what i'm saying is, do you REALLY need to be registered? What is the reason for doing this?

Yes, I am also asking if I need too, I am not making money yet, because well the business has not been launched yet. 16 is the working age I think, but not sure beacause some of my friends who are 14 already have jobs.

You should ask how much they are earning. Kids can have jobs at 14, however they won't be able to work full time or earn a basic wage. I am guessing this is the case, something like a paper round.

I'd keep a freelancer status, no business registration required. I would strongly reccomend against registering until you are least 18 and ready to account for all taxes/paperwork/etc. Or at least until you are not under the guardianship of your parents...

Patrick

can i ask what would the benefits be of ever becoming a registered business? i mean wouldn't always be better to stay clear of those taxes?

Becoming a registered business just makes you more official, serves no real purpose though other than for legal situations and getting to pay taxes. Also you aren't required to register as a business until you make $x a year, not quite sure of the figure.

Patrick

As long as you don't bump into the tax man then.....none really.

Basically what Patrick said, it is illegal to be earning above X amount per year without paying tax.
