  Old  New to the business

Hi everyone,

I am new to the business of web design but not new to design itself. I have actualy been working for a company and making only $100 per site I would build for them then only a part time salery to make calls and do other things for them. So I desided to venture out on my own.

Do you have any advice on how to build my business up? I am not sure if I am allowed to post a link to my site here or not but I do have one up already and a sample site as well for clients to view.

What's your marketing budget?

If $0, then participate in forums where people might spot a link and look for you; post your services to online directories like FreelanceLocalTech (USA only) and FreelanceDesigners (any country); post your portfolio on portfoilio sites; join local business networking organizations and talk to people about what you do; find a bunch of freelance marketers and tag along for the ride; work on SEO and build your website to #1 search response for "<your city> web design".

If you have a marketing budget, use PPC advertising that focuses on your city/state/country (whichever is the appropriate size for your ad budget).

The biggest thing at startup that I think alot of designers miss out on is structuring for long term. Before you start anything; figure out:

What you are providing.
How much you can provide.
How people will know your providing it.
How people will know it's quality.

Portfolio is a must in order to let your clients review your previous artwork. Please consider register an account with scriptlance and you might get additional paid assignment from there.
