  Old  Graphics vs Gameplay

Most of the gamers I know say that graphics don’t influence at all while they play. They say it’s all about skill and imagination, that “graphics just enhance the experience a bit”. I’m pretty sure that in the videogaming industry, there are 2 different sections (at least) that separate the graphics work from programming but in the end they are still part of the same team, so is gameplay actually a consecuence of graphics?

short answer: yes.

gears of war would not give the user the same experience if it was a 16-bit side-scroller like super mario bros. form is a co-dependant of function.

Very true. Graphics play a big role, many people are just too used to it enhancing every year that they take better graphics for granted.

Gameplay all the way, what good is a game that looks good but is no fun to play?

I'd choose game play over graphics any day, but good and successful games these days have a good combination of the two--Gears of War series, Halo series, Kill Zone, Resident Evil, etc.

True in some cases, not in others. Look at Counter-Strike for example (for those who have any idea what that was). Up until several years ago, its graphics were absolutely terrible yet hundreds of thousand of people played it at any given moment. The gameplay was wonderful, and people often had lots of fun.

Yes, obviously a game like Call of Duty 4 (which in my opinion, is the greatest multiplayer FPS ever) balanced graphics and gameplay PERFECTLY, and I mean, perfectly.
