Google+ Invites [merged threads]
It hasn't been 2 full days yet, but Google have already had to suspend the giveaway of more invites to their social networking club Google+ (or Google Plus) due to "insane demand", according to Google social VP Vic Gundotra. The requests for invites have flooded Twitter and as Forbes' Quentin Hardy writes, "it probably already has more first-day signups than all the other social networks, combined, and it is ostensibly aiming at Facebook: Capturing 1% of Facebook’s fan base amounts to 7 million people."
While some of us have signed up for the invite, it might be some time before we get there, so I thought it would be a good way to organize invite sharing for members of this community.
If you are lucky to get in Google Plus early, please do share some invites. Post below how many you have and we'll ask those receiving the invites to pay it forward by sharing theirs.

I got into Google+ yesterday but they've disabled invites for everyone. As soon as they get re-enabled I'll shoot an invite to everyone here in order of posts.
(For the people above me, I'll need to know your GMail address to send the invite.)

I don't see it being a Facebook replacement when you start considering all the customizing Facebook has and its applications. Google+ doesn't have any of that...yet. I would really like to see at least an option to customize the CSS of your Google+ page.
Also, I don't really agree with the invite system for this particular project. The purpose of Google making this a public beta is for us to test and play with, but it's kind of pointless when the majority of people using it have absolutely no friends to test it with.

I think they are trying to keep it to serious users only. If it was a completely open demo everyone would be signing up, this invite system confines it to a relatively geeky crowd who is actually going to use it and test it out.

I understand that, but it's just difficult to test a social networking platform without anyone to network with. Google+ has this section called 'Sparks' which is basically any category you can think of (Fashion, Motorcycles, Graphic Design, for example) that you can add to your profile. You then click on that 'Spark' and it'll display the latest news in relation to that 'Spark'. I was kind of hoping that this would be a new way to meet people that are also interested in a particular 'Spark', but from what I can tell it just displays the latest news or blog posts from random websites.
