There are tons of companies where you will be able to register domain names..
Be sure to deal with ICANN-accredited one.

No doubt, .COM domain is the best one. its registration is cheap and I would like to say that the majority of webmasters prefer to reg it.

Make sure you have the possibility to buy an .is domain, as you might need to be from Iceland.

And yes, 101domain.com are known to be reliable.
