I'm Confused

How do you make money by AdSense and advertising every month. Is there anyone who can give me an indepth summary and tell me how to do it for my site?

I make money designing and everything but I have never made money with any of my sites and I have been developing for 2 years now. I was always confused about this and never had the common sense to ask.

Basically when you sign up and are accepted, you choose how big you want the ad, the colors, etc. Then it will give you a code to place on your site where you want the ad to show up. The money is generated through the number of clicks and (I think) the number of pageviews. When you reach a certain amount google will mail you a check.

Not adsense, I think there may be some programs that do though.

Can anyone point me in the direction of some links where I can sign up and stuff?
