Soon I'll be launching TalkDeveloping which has something I've yet to see done in a good way since vBulletin has taken over; it's own custom built forum software.

I've worked for days on end to get this working the correct way to my satisfaction and interacts with the website in every way just about. For posting it features the visual indicators for new posts, BBCode / Smilies and I have alot more features in mind of which I can easily create as I have complete control.

My question is: What are some key features you would like to see me integrate with the forum software as a whole that would interest you?

The list so far:
  • iTrader-like system
  • Thumbnails upon thread listing in the display areas
  • Tutorial request forum, but has more features than posting in the normal forums would have and a chance to be put on the main website content (there will be a visual badge to notify users if it's been on the site, or been decided to leave in the forum)
  • Instant advertising system - You fill out form and if the place you want is available, your ad will be submitted. Then it sends you to a payment page and once payment is complete, your ad is instantly put on the website for the 1 months time.

I think reinventing the wheel is a bad idea to begin with.

Disregarding that...

Much of the features of something I would require is some type of caching. Forums can result in a large number of queries being run and resulting in quite a bit of stress on the database server. I'd recommend making sure some type of caching is incorporated.

There are very few queries I promise that, and how everything works together has a very small load of the DataBase.
