Do you actually have experience with these hosts or are you just naming all the web hosts you know. I ask because hostgator, bluehost and hostmonster are not small hosts and I have heard many bad things about almost all of the above.

I don't know anything about BlueHost or HostMonster, but I do know HostGator's reputation is pretty solid.
And you're right - they're by no means small.
