Lets not forget one of the key elements of design is the use of space. If a person is given TOO MUCH space it will more often than not be used badly and if it is the design will look untidy. Plus like it's been mentioned it's not right to cut out 20% of all internet users just because you don't use their resolution. Don't forget YOU design for THEM they shouldn't have to change their res to view your site
