  Old  Want a new computer...

I think its about time for me to upgrade my computer. The thing is though, I don't really know much about hardware. I need it to be lightening fast in Photoshop (handling large files), and to be able to play all the new games out there. So my question would be what kind of processor and video card do you guys think I need?

Thanks!

The most important factor is making sure you get a mobo that'll support at least 4xDDR2. That way you can have up to 4GBs of memory.

Definitely agree with lucas on the graphics card though!

Hmm,
if you want lightning fast and got no budget wait for the Skulltrail to come out. MMmm dual CPU.
Otherwise I would go with a Quad q6600 and 4gb of Dominator DDR3 RAM on a Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6R Mobo with a nice 9600gt plugged in. That would be a cool setup. Also a Raptor is cheap as hell now so get one of those. Hmm wait you want to play games. Then go get 2 9600GT's or 2 8800GT's since the Skulltrail has SLi

Or you could get a mac...

I believe you mean 8-16gb ram as 4 slotted mobo's support upto 8 / 16 Gb of ram :P

It's not so much the literal sense of max ram, but rather just giving him a budget amount. 2x2GB would be about a $70'ish expense, versus $568 for 8GB. I doubt that would be in his budget.

Of course rereading my post, I'm not sure if I meant more than 4GBs or something. Eh, whatever.

It'll be enough, but you can always opt for 4GB. It's not that far out of your budget. Newegg has plenty of 2x2GB memkits that are $100 or lower, depending on if you're brand specific and/or require a certain speed on the memory.

Thanks guys. That graphics card was the one I had my eye on too. That processor looks awesome too Lucas.

2 8800GT's
I was considering that, but that may put me over my budget. I still need a case and a motherboard. :/

My budget is about $1200.

Make sure you get the Raptor Drive to decrease loading times.

Hmm, $1200 budget for just the processor, RAM and the video card?
