Getting clients?

What are some ways that you guys get clients?

For me, I try and particpate in as many contests as I can handle. Then hopefully someone that is browsing that contest likes my work and contacts me.

I also design a few sites for my friends free and have my links all over their site and I've gotten clients that way

Another is just putting the link to my portfolio in my signature at different message boards.
