  Old  different forum software

I am trying to start a new forum community at www.tuningcartalk.com

I currently am using Mambo opensource for CMS and simpleboard for the forum. It is not the greatest forum software, but I love the mambo template design. Do you know of any good forum software that I can get that I or someone else can create a design similar to the one on the mambo template? I know of vBulliten and phpBB. I would guess vBulliten is probally going to be the best bet, however. I was just wanting to get some opinions on different forum software.

vBulletin uses PHP and MySQL.

No other software compares. Not even Invision Power Board.

Although they both seem so similar now, and IPB's admin panel is a lot more organised, Support and pricing - and security of vBulletin rates much higher, indefinatley.

One of the best things about vBulletin is that you need no PHP or SQL knowledge to run it, not even to add modifications. It uses a "plug-in" system that means no file editing for hacks and such.

You'll understand it all a bit more when you've read the Instruction Manual for vBulletin.

There's also an Admin Demo, so you can check out some of the features and get a little taste of what having vBulletin is like.

As for phpBB, it is well known for its bad security, it's always getting hacked into.

so refrain from using phpBB then. are vBulletin skins/designs hard to add? Is there a nice company or two that specializes in vBulletin skins/designs?

ok I will check out the demo!

vBulletin skins are simple to add.

It is a matter of downloading the style, then vBulletin will automatically upload the style, add it, sort it, update it - it's all very nice and automatic.

Although you will have to upload all images / scripts manually via FTP.

The vBulletin.com Forums has a small selection of styles and graphics submitted by members (including me ).

Theres also a few other sites, such as:
This is all I know of. The styles on vBulletin.com and vBulletin-Style are free, as far as I know, also.
