i once was in the exact same situation as you , i choose to buy a 28" monitor ( 1080p , 300 euros ) with one vga and one hdmi port.

I'm very happy with it for my regular use as a computer monitor and with my xbox 360, but as soon as you want to use an older devices ( retro console like nintendo or megadrive , or even an old dvd player with only composite connections ) it's a huge pain in the ass

so my answer would be , buy a monitor because it's way cheaper witht he same image quality but don't forget that it will only work with recent devices

If you're planning on using the second monitor mostly for games, or TV, then a big TV would be a grand plan (nothing quite like some COD4 action on the big screen!)

However, if you're going to be doing a lot of work (web design, word processing, graphics etc.) on it, then I'd probably go for a big widescreen (22-24") - you'll still get a fantastic gaming picture on it, but it'll be easier on the eyes when doing work.

I've got a 21" and 24" widescreen dual setup. It's a lovely sight

I always find actual computer monitors to offer a much higher contrast ratio and a crisper picture then a monitor with a TV tuner...especially for the price!
