  Old  "Book" domains

With the popularity of Facebook rapidly growing all over the world, I notice that many people take advantages of it by registering "face" and "book" domains, like facebox, faceboot, fastbook, fatbook, fesbook, etc. Do you think those kinds of domain really sell?

Anyone doing that now is going to find themselves in a world of hurt. Facebook just managed to trademark "face" and "book" when it is used to sound similar to their domain. The infringement suit you could get hit with isn't worth trying to piggyback on their success.

That reminds me of the time when I bought cheap Chinese version of the Reebok shoes. I remember there was Reabuck, Reabux, Rebock and similar brand names.

Wow, that's not good news for those domain squatters opportunists. Did Wikipedia also do the same for "wiki"? I notice there are many websites or registered domains using the word "wiki" as part of the domain names.

I just wonder how they managed to trademark "face" and "book". I think both words are general words and everybody should be allowed to used them. I think they should remain in the public domain, so to say.

I think it is plain stupid to get copyright to such things. Who cares if someone wants to copy facebook. I hate how huge corporation can do whatever they like!

I hadn't heard that Facebook had done that. I think the word as a whole should be allowed to be their "property" but any derivatives should have to be separately registered. They take it too far, in my opinion - when UPS is allowed to "own" the color brown!

Village Genius will become famous soon enough

This will all be going to court in the next few years, as soon as they sue someone with enough money to fight all the way to the supreme court. My advice would be that unless you have enough money to supply a legal team for the greater part of this decade, don't mess with them.
