Old  What browsers do you test your sites in?

Recently I've had to create a website for my mums primary school and I decided to use it as a University assignment as well. For this I tested the website in several different browsers, IE6, Firefox and Netscape 8. Although generally when testing a website i'll own bother with IE6 anD Firefox.

What about everyone else? Do you test your sites in every browser out there or only the big 3, is it important to you that your site works well in other browsers or is IE sufficient enough?

I test in IE and Firefox mainly, I go by the fact that if it works in Firefox it probably works in Opera, but I have to optimize it for IE. They are the big two, but now you mention it I probably should test in Opera also.
www.browsercam.com is a very good resource for this topic, anyone wanting to see their website on every single browser, I believe you can get a free 24hrs account

Actually, Firefox and Opera render CSS quite differently. Opera has some terrible CSS bugs so it's best to check in Opera too.

Also keep in mind that IE/Win and IE/Mac render CSS very differently. So, what looks good on one IE will look very differently on the other....even IE5 and IE6 render CSS differently :/ This is the reason I don't work with CSS anymore, too much work to satisfy IE...

When I had Windows I tested in IE5.0/Win, IE6.0/Win, IE/Mac, Firefox, Opera, Konquerer, Safari...hmm that's about it, I think.

I mainly check in IE, Firefox, and Netscape 7.2. I'll generally tak a quick glance at a project in Opera 7.54, Opera 8, and NS8 before I upload, though.

Here's my tip: you should design without needing IE/NN and other browser specific hacks.

This way your site will work in almost any browser every time, plus you won't need to "fix" it when new browsers surface.

But how can you make the CSS that works for IE, work just as well for Firefox or any other major browser? You do need CSS hacks for some browsers. I don't think I've seen a CSS based site without them while still managing to look good in all browsers.

IE and Firefox only. The CPanel statistics on my site indicate that the percentage of visitors using other browsers is absolutely tiny so it just isn't worth the development effort to test in them....

best wishes

Don't design sites with such small tolerances that they break in IE and such.

I don't have a single hack in my last three sites.

There may be a few pixels too wide here, or a bit too low there, but in general it works.

Yeah but that means limiting how far you can go in terms of design :/

But you're right, whenever possible it's best to go simple. Less hassle in the future.
