You will start with Directory submission then Bookmarking and then link building, forum posting... etc.

IMHO people spend far too much time worrying about SEO and not nearly enough time making good content.

Content is king. SEO is an attempt to compensate for not having sufficiently good content.

I have several websites that are very highly ranked in Google and other search engines. None of them have ever had even 1 minute of time invested in SEO on them. The reason they do well is that the content is valuable and people want to read it.

If you want your site to succeed, step back from worrying about search engines and ask yourself a few questions. Is the site valuable to readers? Who would want to read it? How can you make it more worth someone reading?

Focus on that first, not gaming the system.

My tuppence.

The first step in seo is keyword analysis and finding the targeted audience..Then only the other steps can be taken.

First step is keyword research and analyzing the targeted audience, then One page activities like keyword research, meta tags, alt tags etc and then off page activities....

First thing you should do, you must submit to any directory. So, that can make your site index at search engine especially at google search engine. After that, you can make backlinks. To make backlinks, we will take much time to do that. If you okay with that, it's no problem. But, some people just take built backlinks service from people that offer that service. So, we will saving some time there and can focus other work.

I agree completely... Most high-ranking sites have great content before they even look into SEO.

Another suggestion, is to take your current content, review it properly, and re-write it, giving it more content relevant to the topic of the page.

Should I go for link building, bookmarking, directory submission or something else.
Please help me out with your knowledge.
Find the good quality keywords that you want to focus on - and rank for. Content is first before you decide to start link building.

Keywords are important because they help people find you. Have you heard about the link wheels with SEO?
