I voted yes but you need make sure you got a good design and discussion, cause vanilla can be quite empty without.

Every time i see Vanilla, i can't even be bothered to register. I won't waste my time with budget forum software.

its not budget forum software, its just a different solution, i personally like the look and feel of most vanilla forums over vbulletin. The simplicity of vanilla and ease of use over powers the various abilities of vbulletin.

I've worked with it before and i must say i love it. If you can get the look just right i think it'll work. Otherwise your forum will jsut flop.

I really like Vanilla, it's a bit snobby to only register if the site owner has paid for some premium software in my opinion.

Agreed.
Vanilla is good and it does the job. The fact of all these added features vB and IPB and the rest have is just a bonus of the software, end of the day we want to post topics and reply.

Some good thoughts here. Atm it seems pretty split as regards to opinions, pretty much what I thought.
A main bone of contention appears to be the fact that a site powered by something free shows a lack of effort by the owner. That they are simply trying to make the quick buck, or that because its free, the content will be awful. I dont feel its the case. Plenty of things come free, and are worth while - vanilla's one.
To me, vanilla shows some quality plus a large scope for customisation. It's not riddled with security issues, i.e. phpbb.
Im curious to find other reasons, OTHER THAN ITS FREE, that people do not like it?
