Wordpress blogs - using them and how far you can push it - job possibility for someon

Ok so I'm wondering -

A normal blog format like where you have 2 columns - a main column of articles on left and a widget column on the right

I understand that and I think it is easy and nice

However what if, when people type in the URL I want them to go to a "home page" which is different looking to the normal blog format but it is still entwined with the blog?

For example, look at this design on DEviantart -

Could one possibly have say a home page similar to that - and like your index_2.html was like the blog page..and could you have them working together?

So if you clicked on a picture on the homepage layout like above, when you click it, it would take you to the blog article

I like Wordpress but want to know more - if someone can do that, I would pay for it if the price is right

I have the design of the blog - it is a normal one with 2 columns going down. The design for the home page idea would be like that above where it has images etc rather than a typical blog look

Yes, it possible. Many CSS showcase sites do it.
Light on Dark, for example.

You can do -anything- really with wordpress. You can do everything you've got there with wordpress, except the duration bit. Design is very hot btw.
