We decided that adult content is to be allowed, so long as it is clearly marked as such, with a thread prefix like [ADULT CONTENT].

Threads containing adult material will still be moderated on an individual basis, so if it smells like spam or contains "extreme" material then of course even a thread prefix won't save it.
